Yessenov Data Lab 2020 Summer School

The Department of General and Theoretical Physics congratulates PhD, associate professor Tsyba Pyotr  on receiving a grant of the program Yessenov Data Lab 2020 Summer School, Shakhmardan Yessenov Science and Education Foundation.

 Yessenov Data Lab 2020 Summer School is a 5-week intensive training of young Kazakhstan’s scientists in basic skills of volume data analysis for further application of knowledge in real practical work, as well as the development of their communication skills

 Graduates will gain the following skills:

1.     Python programming as part of data analysis

2.     Statistical analysis methods

3.     Data pre-processing and preparation for subsequent analysis

4.     Data visualization and pattern recognition

5.     Forecasting based on historical data

6.     Understanding various learning algorithms

 

7.     The right choice of training model

The competition has three (3) rounds. Applicants that demonstrated the best skills are selected upon the completion of each round.

First round: applications’ submission and assessment. Candidates submit their applications from 24 February to 15 March 2020. In total 199 applications were submitted, 43 participants were admitted to the second round.

Second round: Mathematics and logic testing and Data Science test on the Kaggle platform. The second round is held on 31 March to 15 April 2020.

Third round: interviews. The third round is held on 16-22 April 2020. The interview was held with expert advice online. The following competencies are considered during the interview: Analytical skills, Professional skills, Programming skills and experience (if possible), Personal qualities.

The fund made a final decision on April 30, selecting 20 winners.

The summer school will be held from June 15 to July 17, 2020, on the basis of KazNU. Al-Farabi, Almaty.
