Dear students of the faculty of Physics and technology!

Why precisely FPTS?

An important step towards a modern profession

One of the most significant decisions in a person’s life is a profession choice. The Faculty of Physics and Technical Sciences of L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University has a lot to offer for young graduates who are going to make this important move. The faculty, which was founded eleven years ago, is a leading structure of the university in terms of performance in the fields of educational process, scientific research, public participation, etc. providing education in accordance with international standards, train highly qualified specialists in the fields of natural sciences, technics and technology with well-equipped research centers and laboratories.

The teaching process in Kazakh, Russian and English is also a substantial indicator for today’s young people who speak several languages and are fluent in English. About 75% of the teaching staff of the faculty are specialists with scientific degrees. Representatives of well-known Kazakhstani and foreign scientific schools work successfully in the team and make a significant contribution to higher education and science. Our students have the opportunity to apply in practice, to see and experiment the deep theoretical knowledge provided by their teachers. For this purpose, the faculty has a well-equipped educational and laboratory center. Those challengers who want to cover a certain scientific topic can work in the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory based on DS-60 heavy ion accelerator, Engineering Profile Laboratory, Eurasian International Center for Theoretical Physics, Scientific Laboratory of Energy and Functional Materials, Scientific Laboratory of the Eurasian Physics and Energy Research and Science-Related Technologies Institute, SOTSBI Network Technological Laboratory. The faculty has partnership relations with major scientific centers such as the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan, N.E.Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, the Ural Federal University, Masarik Chuvash Technical University, St. Petersburg Information Technology, Mechanics and Optics University, St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications, Tomsk Polytechnic University, N.F.Reshetnev Siberian State Aerospace University, Universities of California, Florida in the USA, Berlin Technical University, Dresden Technical University, Bilkent University in Turkey, Sharda University in India, University of Paris, Technical University of Brno in the Czech Republic, La Sapienza University in Italy. Students of the Faculty of Physics and Technical Sciences can study and exchange experience in universities around the world in the case of selection under the International Academic Mobility Program.

Our students combine gained knowledge with experience during the internship at such enterprises as the Baikonur Space Center, ‘Kazgydromet’ RSE, Research Institute of Energy and Functional Materials, National Nuclear Center, Institute of Nuclear Physics, Republican Center of Space Communication, ‘Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary’ NC, ‘Kazakhtelecom’ JSC. It is also important that our best students find a future job and get a decent job during their internship. By the way, our best students are internationally recognized for their quality research and scientific activity (for example, K.Egizbek won the international project ‘Best Young Scientist 2020’ whereas B.Abdrakhman became a winner of the CISCO STARS-2020 International Olympiad and was invited to work at Huawei). Certainly this is the result of the hard work of the teaching staff in higher education and training. The high qualification of our team is proved by the results of the 2020 National Ranking of demand for Kazakhstani higher education institutions conducted recently by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating. L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University ranks first in the ranking that identifies the high-demand universities in the country by many criteria. In the ranking among 89 universities, the contribution of the groups of specialties of the Faculty of Physics and Technical Sciences to the ENU’s leading position is significant. Among the groups of physical education – B054, M090, D090, i.e. at all three levels of education (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral) the ENU is in the first place. Our university also ranks first in the educational groups M107 – Space Engineering and M108 – Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies. The second place among B059 – the group of Communications and Communication Technologies as well as among B067 – Air Transport and Technologies and M096 – Communications and Communication Technologies are also the perfect results. L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University, including specialties related to the Faculty of Physics and Technology, also places high in international rankings. According to the international ‘Times Higher Education Subject ranking 2020’, conducted by the international rating agency ‘Times Higher Education’, one of the most prestigious organizations in the field of higher education and science in the world, ENU is among the world’s ‘Top 801+’ universities in the field of ‘Physical sciences’.

According to the international ranking ‘QS World University Ranking by Subject’ in 2019, the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University is ranked 551-600 out of 1355 universities in the world on the subject ‘Physics and Astronomy’. We know that today’s open-minded young people, future students pay attention to such domestic and international rankings when choosing a place to study. We hope that the above data, which evidences the level of specialties in our faculty, will help young people to make decisions at the time of their choice.

In conclusion, I would like to say to young people who are faced with such important decisions as the choice of profession and educational institution that if you want to work in the fields of the most important modern issues for Kazakhstani and world science such as alternative energy, hydrogen energy, functional nanomaterials generation, nuclear physics and technology, space technology and nanotechnology, electronics, network and telecommunications technologies, carry out quality research and contribute to world science we advise you to choose the Faculty of Physics and Technical Sciences of L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
