The department "General and Theoretical Physics" was founded in 2005.
The head of the department is Ph.D. Yerzhanov Koblandy.
The honorary head of the department is - the Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2017, in the field of science and technology named after al-Farabi, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, director of the Eurasian International Center for Theoretical Physics at ENU named after L.N. Gumilyova, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the European Academy of Natural Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan - Myrzakulov Ratbay
The department trains specialists in the following specialties –
Bachelor's degree: 5В060400 - Physics, 6В05304 - Physics (naturally - scientific direction).
Master's program: 6M060400 - Physics, 7M05304 - Physics (naturally - a scientific direction),
Doctoral studies: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), specialty 6D060400-Physics, 8D05304 - Physics.
At the department, the training of specialists in these areas is carried out by 22 teachers in the main staff and 2 invited foreign professors who read cycles of basic and specialized disciplines, including 2 doctors of sciences, 9 PhDs, 4 candidates of sciences, 6 masters - specialists in the field of physics and mathematics. Since 2009, training has been carried out in three areas - in the field of theoretical physics, mathematical physics, and in the field of education.
Students of our department receive fundamental knowledge in the field of basic disciplines - physics, mathematics.
Our students acquire skills in modeling physical processes on a modern computer base. There is a military department at ENU, where students undergo military training with a reserve officer training program. Students of our department are provided with housing in student homes.
Since 2006, the research “Eurasian International Center for Theoretical Physics” has been functioning, organized by Professor R. Myrzakulov, with the aim of conducting theoretical research in the field of relevant scientific, technical, and scientific-methodological problems, on the basis of which you have the opportunity from the first courses to engage in scientific work and realize themselves in the scientific field.
